An Old Farmer and His Quarrelling Sons

Once upon a time. There was a old farmer. He had four sons. They always quarrelled with one another. He was very sad. He thought of a plan.

He brought a bundle of sticks. He asked his sons to break it. Each boy tried to break it. but they could not break it.

Now, his father untied the bundle. He asked them to break the sticks one by one.Every son broke it very easily.

Now the father said, “If you live united like the sticks, you will be strong. Nobody can harm you.' 

The sons learnt a lesson. They decided to live together. They never quarrelled. The old farmer and his sons were very happy.

 Moral : Union is strength.

A Fox and A Crane

Once upon a time there were two friends A fox-and a crane. One day The fox invited the crane to dine with him. The crane went to the fox. He welcomed the crane.He puts flat dish containing soup. The fox lapped up the soup. The crane had a pointed beak, so it could not make the soup. The crane went back hungry. It thought of a plan. 

Next day the crane invited the fox to dine. The fox went there. He put boiled rice in a.jar. Its neck was narrow. The crane could put his neck into the jar and eat rice with his beak easily but fox could not do that so the fox remained hungry. 

Moral : Tit for tat.

The Shepherd Boy and The Wolf

Once upon a time, there was a shepherd boy. He was set to guard sheep. He watched the sheep for several days. He got tired of that monotonous work.

One day he shouted 'wolf' as a joke. All the villagers hasten to his help. But they found no wolf.The boy laughed at them. The villagers got angry. 

After a few days the boy shouted 'wolf!-wolf!' again. Villagers came there and found no wolf again. The boy laughed at villagers and The vilaagers got angry again. 

After several days, One day A wolf really came there. The boy shouted 'Wolf!-Wolf!'. This time no one came there as they thought the boy is joking. The wolf killed several sheep. 

Moral : Nobody trusts a liar. 

             Once a liar, always a liar. 

A Hare and A Tortoise

Once upon a time. There were a Hare and a Tortoise. They were fast friends. The hare was proud of his speed. It laughed at the tortoise for his slow speed. One day the tortoise asked the hare to run a race. The hare laughed and accepted the challenge. They were to reach a bush near the river. 

On the fixed day the race began. The hare ran very fast but the tortoise went on slowly. The tortoise was left far behind. It was a hot day. The hare wanted to take rest. It went under a tree and fell asleep. The tortoise did not stop. He went on. At about sunset the hare woke up and ran very fast. When it reached the bush, it saw the tortoise waiting for the hare. The tortoise , won the race. The hare was very sad.

Moral : Slow but steady wins the race. 

A clever cap seller

Once upon a time.There was a cap-seller. He went from village to village to sell his caps. One day he passed through a forest. He was tired. He put down his bundle of caps and slept under a tree.There were many monkeys in the forest. They came down. They took away the caps from the bag.

After sometime the cap-seller woke up. He saw that there was no cap in the bag. He looked up. He saw the monkeys with his caps. 

He thought of a plan. He put on his cap. The monkeys do the same and they put on the caps. Now he took off his cap. The monkeys did the same. He threw his cap to the ground. The monkeys also did the same. Then He collected all his caps. He went away. 

Moral : Never lose heart.

Bee and Dove

There was a bee. One day it was thirsty. It went to a river to drink water. It fell into the water. Its life was in danger. There was a tree near the river. A dove was sitting on a branch of that tree. It saw the bee. It dropped a leaf near the bee. The bee came on the leaf and flew away. The dove saved its life.

After some days the same dove was sitting on the branch of a tree. A hunter saw the dove. He aimed at the dove. The bee saw it. It flew and stung on his hand. The hunter missed the aim. The gun went off. There was a loud sound. The dove flew off. The bee saved the life of the dove. 

Moral : Do good and have good.

Two friends and A bear

Once upon a time. There were two friends.They promised each other to remain there unity in any case.One day, they were walking through a dangerous forest.Suddenly, they saw a large bear approaching them. One of the friends at once climbed a nearby tree. But the other one did not know how to climb. So being led by his common sense, he lay down on the ground breathless, pretending to be a dead man.The bear came near the man lying on the ground. It smelt in his ears. The bears do not touch the dead creatures, so it left the place. Now the friend on the tree came down and asked his friend on the ground, “Friend, what did the bear tell you into your ears?” The other friend replied, “The bear advised me not to believe a false friend.”

Moral: True Friend is the one who always supports and stands by you in any situation.

Farmer and hen

 Once a farmer lived in a village. He was very greedy. He had a unique hen. It laid one golden egg every day. He wished to be a rich man soon. So he tried to get all the golden eggs at a time. He cut open the hen’s stomach. He found no eggs there. The hen died. The farmer was very sad.

Moral : Greed is a curse.

Farmer and his sons

He called all his sons there. He asked them to break the bundle one by one. None could succeed. Then the farmer untied the bundle. He asked his sons to break the sticks one by one. Each broke them easily. In this way the farmer taught them a lesson, “Unity is Strength”.

Moral : Unity is strength.

Hare and Tortoise

 Once a hare and a tortoise lived in a forest. The hare was proud of its fast speed. It always laughed at the tortoise’s slow speed. One day the tortoise challenged the hare to run a race. The race started. The hare ran fast in the beginning. Then it took rest on the way and fell asleep. The tortoise was far behind But it continued running. It reached the goal. Then the hare got up and ran fast again. But, it lost the race. Now the hare was ashamed.

Moral : Slow and steady wins the race.

Bee and Dove

 Once a bee and a dove were fast friends. They lived in a tree along the pond. One day the bee fell into the water. Its wings became wet. The dove saw the bee in danger. It dropped a leaf in the water. The bee climbed on it and flew away. After some days, a hunter came into the forest. He aimed at the dove. The bee saw the danger. It soon stung the hunter’s arm. The hunter missed his aim. The dove flew away. ।

Moral : A friend in need is a friend indeed.

Greedy Dog

 There was a dog. It was very greedy. One day it got a piece of meat. It went on its way. Then it passed over a bridge. It saw its reflection in the river water. The dog thought that there was another dog with a piece of meat. The greedy dog wanted to take the piece of meat of the other dog also. It began to bark. In doing so its own piece of meat fell into the water. The dog couldn’t do anything. So it was very sad.

Moral : Don’t be greedy.

Fox and Grapes

 There was a fox. One day it felt very hungry. It went in search of food. It reached a garden. It saw a bunch of grapes there. It wanted to eat them. So it jumped again and again. It could not catch the bunch of grapes because it was very high. At last the fox got tired. It said to itself, “The grapes are sour. I do not like them.” Saying so it went away.

Moral: Grapes out of reach are said to be sour.

Elephant and Tailor

 There was an elephant. It used to go to the river to drink water. On the way it passed by a tailor’s shop. The tailor used to give it a loaf of bread. One day the tailor was not at the shop. His son was sitting at the shop. He did not give anything to the elephant. He pricked a needle in its trunk. The elephant became angry. It went to the river bank. It filled its trunk with dirty water. It came to the tailor’s shop. It sprayed dirty water in the shop. It spoiled all the clothes in the shop.

Moral : Tit for tat.

The lion and the mouse

Once upon a time there was a lion. One day it was sleeping under a tree. 

A mouse came and began to jump on his body. The lion woke up. 

He became angry. He wanted to kill it. The mouse said to the lion, “Do not kill me. I shall help you some day.”

The lion laughed and said,'A mouse will help a lion? ha!ha!ha!' then he felt pity and freed it.

The mouse thanked him and promised to help in future.

 After some days the lion was caught in a net. He began to roar. The mouse heard his roar. He came there and quickly cut the net with his sharp teeth and freed lion away. 

The Lion thanked the mouse and apologize for joking.

Moral: Do good, have good.

Thirsty Crow

Once upon a time. There was a crow. one day it was very thirsty. 

It went here and there in search of water. It saw no water any where.

After sometime it saw a pot. There was a little water at its bottom.

It could not reach the water.

It saw a few pebbles lying near about. It dropped pebbles into the pot. 

The water came up. The crow drank the water. It flew away.

Moral : Where there is a will, there is a way.

The Clever Fox and Foolish Crow

Once upon a time. There was a crow. One day it was sitting on a branch of a tree. It had a piece of bread in its beak.

A fox saw it. It was very clever. It was hungry. It said to the crow, “Brother, your voice is very sweet. Please sing a song for me.”

The foolish crow was very much pleased. It began to sing a song. As soon as it opened its beak, the piece fell to the ground. The fox took it. It ran away.

Moral : Beware of flatterers.
